Edith Johnson Towers Renovation
Edith Johnson Towers, a 14-story high-rise in New Haven, CT, recently underwent a transformative modernization to preserve its role as affordable senior housing. Originally built in the early 1970s, the building faced structural challenges, including water penetration and outdated life-safety systems. Beacon Communities, alongside The Architectural Team, Inc. and Keith Construction Inc., led the project to upgrade essential systems, modernize amenities, and enhance the overall living experience for residents.
INTUS Supera double-pane windows were a key solution, addressing water infiltration while providing energy efficiency and noise reduction with STC ratings up to 31. With over 160 custom window elements, the renovation maintained design precision to meet unique requirements.
The updated facade, featuring a sleek white and anthracite grey color scheme, transformed the building’s appearance while blending seamlessly with the neighborhood. Despite its busy urban environment, senior residents now enjoy a quieter and more comfortable home.
Completed in August 2023, the project ensured minimal resident disruption during construction. This thoughtful renovation not only revitalized Edith Johnson Towers but also ensured it continues to serve the community as a vibrant, affordable housing resource for years to come.
